study of a figure sketch by John Singer Sergeant

DAY 1

In this stage of creating my study, I was still determining the proportions of the overall figure while getting down some sense of composition. I started by adding a very defined outline, which gets updated later on throughout the process of making this piece.

DAY 2
In this stage of creating my study, there was much improvement. I finished creating a defined outline for the figure, while also adding some values and shading to the figure, most notably in the arm and back of head. While adding these values I started to incorporate more of the artist's mark, by adding hatch marks on top of the gradient shading early done.
DAY 3
In this stage, major progress has been made. Some work was done with the right shoulder, which was not recorded, but overall many more values were put down connecting the left arm to the lower back, and right shoulder. On top of my earlier method of showing the artist's mark, I also created more thick and generally harsher or scratchier lines to really demonstrate the sketchiness of this drawing.

Great series of process posts!
