In this awareness post I will be discussing Aliza Nisenbaum. She is a Mexican painter, currently working and living in NYC; with a background of a bachelors and masters in fine arts from the school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently she's a professor at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. Some of her works in NYC are being represented by the Anton Kern Gallery, a well known contemporary institute. Although she has had work across the country, being featured at the Regen Projects in Los Angeles. Some of her career highlights are being included in the 2017 Whitney Biennial, a major contemporary art survey, as well as many other solo exhibitions not previously mentioned, such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the FLAG Art Foundation.

I really like how Nisenbaum represents movement and personality with all of the figures. Her usage of accent colors for the skin tones of each figure feel extremely distinct and interesting, conveying a bigger sense of atmosphere to the piece. This all pulls me towards the idea of using color to convey expressions and emotion rather than regular representation.

With this piece I really appreciated the normality of the situation contrasted by the extremely interesting patterns and pastel like color pallet. This piece also stood out to me from the pose of the figure laying down as well as the interesting tones for skin. It reminded me of a classmate's piece featuring similar characteristics. If I ever create something more abstract in either color or concept I would want to incorporate her incredible usage of color, as it really brings a uniqueness to her pieces.
